On the Road Again

[Isaac Erasmus]

Taking the card, "Certainly, sounds like a plan to me. I'll give you a call in a few days after I'm settled in. I might be back here before that though, always in need of a good read." On his way out, Isaac chuckles, "Oh, and might I recommend a local middle school?" Isaac heads off to the hotel recommended to him by Tai, choosing to past directly by Cassy's Hotel, asking Bob to see if he can get a glimpse inside.

[Storyteller]

Tai looks pensive for a moment.

"Yeah, I could do that. The House is a pretty popular hangout. Wanna meet there sometime next week? I'm busy working through the weekend," Tai grabs a scrap of paper advertising a new Twilight novel and writes a phone number on it and hands it to you. "Here, my number. I can't get rid of these things fast enough."

[Isaac Erasmus]

Isaac chuckles. Years spent in the acting world have left him with a keen eye for those with different tastes, and Tai was certainly not trying to hide hers. And he's learned that pretending to ask a lesbian out is a pretty good way to start a friendship. "Alright you got me. I was serious about one thing though, I could use someone to show me around. You seem like the kind of person who'd make a decent tour guide, or if nothing else an interesting friend. What do you say?"

[Storyteller]

Tai looks at you. Then she looks at her reflection in the store window. She looks back at you.

"The dyed red bob haircut, nose ring, stud earrings, and horn rimmed glasses were a giveaway, huh? Or maybe it was the book," Tai gestures down at the book of greek mythology open in front of her, paused on a page depicting Artemis. To the side are scribbled notes on the modern interpretations of Artemis as a symbol of feminism.

[Isaac Erasmus]

"Thanks very much. Well Miss Tai, I just so happen to be new to this part of town, and I'm looking for someone to show me around. Think you might be up for the job?" Isaac leans casually on the counter, smiling coyly. Few normal women can resist his patented "look".

[Storyteller]

The woman pauses a beat.

"Tai," she responds, then hands you the bag with the Lovecraft collection.

[Isaac Erasmus]

Grateful to find one so close by and so easily, Isaac smiles warmly back at the clerk and says"Excellent, thank you very much miss...?" [[toned in such a way as to be asking for her name]]

[Storyteller]

The young woman behind the counter is approximately college aged. She nods as you talk.

"Ugh, yeah that place is a skeezy dump. Had a... um...," she stops talking and shakes her head quickly. "Never mind. Yeah, there's a nicer place down a couple blocks, 50th and 47th." She charges you for the book, then points the way out the door.

[Isaac Erasmus]

[[Yes I would like to locate a hotel. I was getting to that.]] Isaac chuckles. "Don't worry Bob, there'll be plenty of time for skirt chasing later." Isaac then heads up to the counter to purchase the book. "Excuse me, but would happen to be able to point me in the direction of a hotel around here? But please, some place other than O'Kennedy's if you will. The place is absolutely dreadful. Stayed there the last time I was here and it was awful."

[Storyteller]

Bob dejectedly stands behind your chair. Your chair is seated against the wall in the corner. He peers over your shoulder as you read, torn between the rare opportunity to read a book and approximately half of the clientele of the book store.

[[Time passes. Do you want to locate a hotel?]]

[Isaac Erasmus]

Isaac picks up the book and heads off to a back corner to settle in. "You were supposed to be keeping an eye out [around/i] the cab." he mutters while opening the pages. "We'll stick around here for around a half hour, then try and find another hotel nearby."

[Storyteller]

Bob appears beside you, the people in the store none the wiser.

"Oh yeah boss, that was a mighty interesting cab ride you had there. Riveting stuff really. From that alone I deduced the meaning of the universe and all of its creations." Bob looks down at the little book on display at the corner table. "Hey, think you could pick up this one? Looks kinda interesting. Never got a chance to read it in my day," Bob asks as he gestures towards the collection of Lovecraft stories.

[Isaac Erasmus]

Opting for the bookstore, Isaac takes care to make sure his watch is wound tightly. "So Bob, have you seen anything interesting yet?" Isaac asks before stepping inside the store with a warm smile at the clerk.

[Storyteller]

The time is approximately 9 PM. On this street is a dry cleaners, several restaurants/bars, a small corner bookstore mirroring the coffee house, and several closed stores that offer things ranging from clothing to tourist trap items.

[Isaac Erasmus]

"Excellent, sounds good!" As I bid Hugh farewell, I check around for a suitable shop to head directly into, so as to give the appearance of being here with a purpose other than the hotel, also being sure to check my watch. [[what the hell time is it, and what all is around here?]]

[Storyteller]

Hugh nods. He says he could meet you at the little coffee shop on the corner of this block once he gets off at 11. A simple, but well cared for neon sign illuminates "The House" in soft script. Despite the late time, the place seems fairly busy as a small acoustic set is being played inside.

[Isaac Erasmus]

Taking the card and pocketing it, ""Ah, my apologies. In that case how does coffee sound?"

[Storyteller]

The cabby seems torn for a moment. He then pulls out a small wooden coin from his pocket and says that while he would very much like to go grab a drink, he doesn't do that anymore. He hands you his company card and says that if you ever need a ride in the area, you can call that number and ask for Hugh. He pockets his little AA token, waiting for your response.

[Storyteller]

Huico looks at the taxi on the corner, stopped not too close but not too far from the hotel. He then inspects his ripped cargo pants and bloody shirt. I've looked worse. He darts into the building and pulls out a napkin he swiped from the deli, trying to remove some of the more obvious stains from his clothes, before returning to his seat in the foyer and resuming his woodcut.

[Storyteller]

After toiling away in the cramped hotel room for the better part of the evening, you feel fairly certain that the combination of wire, pressure plates, and intricately laid spools that now litter your room will alert you to the presence of anyone attempting to enter the room unaware of their presence at even the slightest provocation. The system all leads back to the recently acquired old brass buzzer, which makes a soft, yet unmistakable sound of entry, striking the perfect balance between alertness and quiet to alert you in your sleep, but not tip your hand to the intruder.

The night has now grown old. Everyone in the merry band of misfits has spent their day in their manner of choosing; Vincent has wandered the myriad alleyways and streets of New York in pursuit of Hanson. Huico has stalked the city, dispensing his own unique form of justice to bring glory to his patron god. Conroy has scouted the local area and seemingly put aside his doubts, spending the remainder of the day reflecting on his next move.

As Huico trudges through the street back to the hotel, a taxi is noticeably parked two blocks down the street from it, in a manner similar to that in which most of you arrived. Despite the pretense that the hotel serves other patrons, all of you have yet to see a normal mortal in the hotel aside from Fechin and his one maid.

Huico: You are standing in front of the hotel, the working lights in the sign casting a soft glow over you. The taxi is down the street from you.

Isaac: You have just arrived to an abrupt stop next to a fire curb as the taxi turns around and asks for payment, having stopped just a few blocks short of your intended destination, as instructed.
